As Student Body President at Abilene Christian University, I guided the Student Government Association (SGA) in releasing its first-ever Fall Semester Report. This groundbreaking document outlined the accomplishments of the Executive Cabinet during the Fall semester and set a vision for the upcoming Spring semester. The report was distributed to the university’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and presented to University President Dr. Phil Schubert.

  • Set Future Expectations: Establish clear goals and expectations for the upcoming semester.
  • Highlight Achievements: Showcase the accomplishments of the Student Congress and provide an overview of pending legislation.
My Involvement

As the leader of a team of seven Executive Cabinet members, I oversaw the creation of the Fall Semester Report. Specifically:

  • Team Leadership: Directed the communications team, which included a Press Secretary and a Marketing Director.
  • Strategic Planning: Outlined the objectives for the report, emphasizing the need for a professional and visually engaging document.
  • Collaboration: Worked closely with the communications team to ensure the report accurately reflected our achievements and future goals.
Successes and Failures
Challenges
  • Tight Deadlines: Faced unrealistic deadlines that put pressure on the team and the quality of the final product.
  • Communication Hiccups: Experienced miscommunications that led to a rushed final editing process and insufficient proofing.
Solutions and Achievements
  • Professional Deliverable: Despite challenges, the communications team produced a professional, concise, and informative report.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Successfully distributed the report to the SLT and presented it to the University President, enhancing transparency and accountability.
  • Lessons Learned: Conducted a post-project debrief to address the issues faced, leading to improved communication strategies and more realistic deadline setting for future projects.

It set a new precedent for transparency within the SGA and provided a clear roadmap for the upcoming semester. The experience highlighted the importance of effective communication, realistic planning, and team coordination.
